Business of Fashion has revealed that London-based fashion designer Mary Katrantzou has hired a CEO and a new Design Director for her eponymous label.

Previously executive vice president at Thom Browne, Trino Verkade, who started her career working for Alexander McQueen, has been appointed CEO of the Mary Katrantzou brand. Meanwhile, Simon Simonton has been taken on as Design Director having previously worked at Givenchy and Tom Ford.

Verkade has been recruited to help take the brand on to the next stage of growth. Talking to the Business of Fashion Katrantzou explained: “In the past year all of our focus has been on building a senior management group that can take us to the next level,” says Katrantzou. Although currently stocked at the likes of Net-a-Porter and Bergdorf Goodman, she hasn’t yet got her own physical retail store. However this is something she aims for in the future, once she has a “fully-fledged range.”

Katrantzou first launched her label in 2008, after graduating from her MA at Central Saint Martins, and, known for her colourful prints, quickly went on to become a favourite of the London fashion scene. Since then, her eponymous label has grown from strength to strength with 2014 seeing her bring in revenue of $15 million according to the BoF. Earlier this year, Katrantzou was announced winner of the BFC / Vogue Fashion Fund, for which she was awarded a year of mentoring and a grant of £200,000. Recognising her talent as a creative as well as a businesswoman, this support from the British Fashion Council and Vogue has been part of the reason she has been able to take on these new hires in her push for growth.

With a new CEO by her side, one thing is certain: exciting times lie ahead for Mary Katrantzou and her luxury fashion label.
