Givenchy broke boundaries for the house’s New York Fashion Week debut – where Riccardo Tisci celebrated his 10 years as creative director in a spectacular show. The talking topic of this season’s instalment of shows, Givenchy opened its guestlist to a usual host of international press and A-listers (Kanye and Kim Kardashian, Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler, to name the obvious), but also extended its audience to a thousand students and members of the public who had won tickets to the show.


A new format to the usual exclusivity of fashion shows, Tisci teamed up with performance art friend Marina Abramović to present a monumental outdoor show, with a set comprising recycle metal sculptures and wooden walkways. Taken place on a pier of NYC’s Hudson River, models walked against the dramatic backdrop of the city’s skyline. The show was also live-streamed on Times Square and on buses throughout the city.
 
Since his debut in 2005, Central Saint Martin’s graduate Tisci has revolutionised the house’s designs, focusing on his unique combination of streetwear and high fashion. The collection was a retrospective showcase of some of the styles that brought Tisci to the forefront of one of Paris’ main design houses. The show also coincided with the opening of Givenchy’s newest shop on Madison Avenue, making this daring move a commercially clever one.
