This week saw the start of the world-famous Cannes Festival, for the 68th edition of the prestigious event.
The Cannes red carpet, has traditionally been the epitome of luxury fashion with glamourous gowns galore and Chopard, the manufaturer of the Palme D’Or award, adorning the ladies in dazzling High Jewellery creations.
Whilst the recent Met Gala’s recent red carpet saw celebrities such as Rihanna turn out in a flamboyant yellow train and Beyoncé in a sheer dress, the Cannes red carpet is a lot less extravagant…and proof that classic red carpet looks can be just as striking.

Naomi Watts attended the premiere of La Tete Haute dressed in Elie Saab. The actress donned a shimmery, feathery masterpiece, which soon made the headlines as a red carpet highlight.

Lupita Nyong’o is making a name for herself as one to watch on the red carpet, having previously impressed crowds in Calvin Klein at the Oscars. This time the actress stole the show at the Cannes opening ceremony with, what she described on Instagram as, a “grasshopper green” flowing Gucci dress.

Julianne Moore went for something more structured: the actress attended the Mad Max: Fury Road premiere dressed in a luxurious velvet Givenchy Haute Couture gown custom-made by Riccardo Tisci.

Meanwhile French actress Sophie Marceau added a touch of French chic to the red carpet. She opted for a simple dress by Haute Couture designer Alexandre Vauthier, making for a statement look.

The Cannes Film Festival may be dedicated to cinema, but that didn’t stop models from making an appearance at the festival too. Former Victoria Secret Angels Douetzen Kroes and Karlie Kloss both stepped out in pale Atelier Versace gowns.

With endless glamourous dresses making their appearance on the red carpet, Cannes Film Festival is, once again, proving to be a moment of shining glory for luxury fashion
