The BDO Business Trends Report, which gathers together the results from all the business surveys carried out in the UK, has published its findings for the past month. It suggests that there is growing confidence across the country, with a projected job growth.
The BDO Employment Index stayed stable at 113. The report highlights that firms are unemployment levels should drop over the coming months, due to rapid hiring by companies. The number of people searching for work is meant to drop to numbers last seen than before the economic crisis, according to the report. Over the next three months employers in the UK plan to continue recruiting more staff and companies are predicted to continue creating more jobs.
The report indicates that business confidence is high with an optimism index above 100, at 104.9. The report says “In recent surveys consumers have cited improving job security as a key driver of high confidence, meaning that this trend in the employment outlook is proving crucial to the recovery.”
However Peter Hemington, Partner, BDO LLP, warned that it is important to remain cautious: "While it is encouraging to see strong business confidence, the UK's continuing poor labour productivity performance is a very significant concern. Productivity ultimately determines our prosperity so it is a crucial area that must be addressed.”
