Londoners were taken by surprise last night, when they looked up to see a car floating across the sky, suspended from a helicopter. This is the manner in which Jaguar chose to launch their brand new model, the XE S. The event also saw a performance by singer Emeli Sandé and band The Kaiser Chiefs, performing for a whole list of celebrity guests.
The XE Sedan rivals the likes of BMW’s 3-series and the Audi A4, as Jaguar attempts to make a strong foray into the luxury car market.
With a 2.0-litre, four cylinder engine, the car can reach up to 155mph. There’s also the high-performance version that borrows the 3.0-litre V6 from Jaguar’s sporty F-Type. The car body is 75% aluminium, giving it a lightweight structure and making it more efficient. The model also has a low CO2 emission of 99g/km.
The interior is equipped with the latest technology. It uses the InCommand system and features an 8-inch touchscreen, which functions as a Wi-Fi hotspot and is compatible with smartphones.
Priced at £27,000, the XE S will go on sale in next year with first deliveries expected for May 2015. If you want to have a peek at the real thing before then, the car will be unveiled to the public at the Paris Motor Show next month.
