Christopher Lemaire announced today that he is to leave his role as Artistic Director of luxury label Hermes in order to develop his own eponymous label.

The designer has held this position at Hermès since 2010. Previous to joining the label, the designer started his career under the wing of Christian Lacroix, then went on to work as creative director of ready-to-wear at Lacoste. He took over from Jean-Paul Gaultier when he joined Hermès 4 years ago. Lemaire is to leave on October 1st, following the presentation of the Spring/Summer 2015 collection at Paris Fashion Week.

In a statement, Lemaire said "Working for Hermès has been a great pleasure: a profoundly enriching experience on both a human and professional level. I am proud of what we have built together. My own label is growing in an important way and I now really want and need to dedicate myself to it fully."

This is not the first time a designer has left their position at a fashion powerhouse to focus on their own brand. In 2013 Reed Krakoff left luxury accessories label Coach after 16 years as Creative Director and President,in order  to develop his own label. The same year Marc Jacobs left Louis Vuitton to concentrate on his own brand.

Hermès have not announced who shall be replacing Christophe Lemaire yet.
