As cyclists wing their way through the French landscape for the Tour de France, we take a look at the ultimate luxury cycling experiences to be had right now.
Specialized, the US cycling brand founded in 1974, have joined forces with McLaren to produce the S-Works Tarmac bike. A limited edition, only 250 models will be produced worldwide, with 10 available in the UK. Costing £16, 000, the high-tech S-Works Tarmac is made of carbon-fibre and has been developed using software used for some of McLaren’s iconic designs. In addition it is painted in the McLaren Special Operations Centre, where the McLaren P1 supercar is given its finishing. Those who invest in the new model will have to attend a Body Geometry session, in order to be fitted with a S-Works Prevail helmet and S-Works McLaren shoes which come with the bike.
British designer Paul Smith, a passionate cyclist, has designed a special capsule collection to coincide with the Tour de France. The 531 collection, which is available exclusively on online retail site Mr Porter, ranges from a cycling cap and chronograph watch, right down to cycling socks. In addition Mercian, who makes bespoke cycle frames, has created a fixed-gear bike for the designer, costing £4,995. Dressed in 531 gear, you’re bound to be the most stylish cyclist around town.

And for those looking for something a little more relaxed, the Bulgari Hotel is running a program entitled “La Dolce Vita in Hyde Park”. Explore Knightsbridge or Hyde Park astride a Bulgari bicycle, created by Momo Design. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll be able to indulge in a hamper lunch by the hotel’s renowned chef, Alain Ducasse. A bicycle ride couldn’t really get much more luxurious than that.
